Learning outcomes
On this training you will learn the 4 steps of NVC: Observations, Feelings, Needs, Requests
and the 3 modes of NVC: self compassion, listening with empathy & honest expression.
You will have the opportunity to apply the mindset and skills to imaginary scenarios and situations from your own life.
By the end of each session you will have a basic understanding of:
Session 1
the purpose, premises and mindset of NVC
needs vs strategies (key distinction)
what gets in the way of compassionate communication with ourselves and others
how to deepen emotional intelligence by translating judgments into feelings and needs
Session 2
how we might listen to each other in a way that creates connection
empathy skills: presence, recapping, listening for feelings and needs
empathy vs other forms of response, e.g. advising, storytelling (key distinction)
what our choices are in responding to difficult-to-hear messages
Session 3
how to listen to ourselves with empathy when our nervous system gets activated
how to prepare for a ‘difficult’ conversation
making observations vs evaluating, interpreting, judging (key distinction)
making requests vs demands (key distinction)
Session 4
what gets in the way of honest self-expression
how to ask for what we want without demanding and without holding back
vulnerability vs weakness (key distinction)
the ‘dance’ of NVC dialogue: asking honestly and vulnerably for what we’d like and empathising with a dreaded response
